Tampa (April 15, 2021) - HELM Fertilizer Terminal, Inc.’s (HFT) Flag Ship Terminal, located in Memphis TN, was accepted into the Tennessee Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). This program recognizes businesses and employers who have used OSHA's on-site Consultation Program services and operate exemplary employee safety and health programs. Acceptance into SHARP is a prestigious achievement that recognizes HELM Fertilizer Terminal, Inc. as a model for workplace health and safety compliance. This hard-earned accreditation, which includes multiple inspections, site visits, employee interviews, and program reviews sets HELM Terminals apart from its industry peers. Within the entire state of Tennessee, only seventeen business, regardless of business type, are SHARP accredited.
The certification of the Memphis Terminal is the result of more than two years of work on Environmental, Health, and Safety excellence and completes the achievement of SHARP certification for all three HFT operated Terminal facilities. The Helena, AR. Terminal location was the first to receive acceptance into the program in March of 2020. HELM’s Alexandria LA, terminal was the second location to achieve OSHA SHARP accreditation in May of 2020. The Memphis terminal location, which is the largest of the three U.S. locations, took more time to become certified due its size and operational complexity. All three HELM Terminals operate using HFT’s “8 Point EHS Plan.” HELM Fertilizer Terminals, Inc. is now the only fertilizer distribution and port/terminal operator to have all operational facilities SHARP certified.
HELM Fertilizer Terminal, Inc. was established in October 1990 and is a leading fertilizer terminal operator servicing the central and southern US markets. HFT provides terminal handling and warehousing services including receiving, storage, blending and distribution of cargoes used by both agricultural and industrial customers. In 2020, HFT safely handled more than 1.1 million net tons of cargo, including the discharge of 350 barges, and loading 27,000 trucks.
